Senior Entertainment Execs to Keynote ESCA and Content Protection Summit Europe

Senior executives from the likes of Electronic Arts, LoveFilm, Sony Pictures, and Warner Home Video are scheduled to provide updates and insights about the delivery and protection of both physical and digital media products at the colocated ESCA Europe and Content Protection Europe Conferences, taking place in London Sept. 21-22.

Opening the ESCA conference on Sept. 21 is Jim Wuthrich, president of international at Warner Home Video, who will review the home entertainment industry’s transition from physical to digital media, and will highlight the opportunities presented by harnessing social media. Following Wuthrich’s presentation, Aodan Coburn, executive vice president of worldwide operations and licensing at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, will sit for an exclusive one-on-one interview on changing supply chain strategies and new improvement initiatives.

Other ESCA Europe sessions include:

• A presentation from Jim Buckle, chief operations officer of LoveFilm, who will discuss the challenges of transitioning the Amazon.com-owned company’s discs-by-mail rental business toward its digital future; and

• A panel discussion on how to further develop the European market for Blu-ray discs, with participants including Lindsay Brown, managing director of operations at Eagle Rock Entertainment, and John Rodden, general manager of StudioCanal.

Content Protection Summit Keynotes

As a bonus to ESCA Europe attendees, this year’s event has been co-located with CDSA and Variety’s Entertainment Content Protection Summit Europe, which will deliver best practices and case studies about dealing with content piracy and protection as an integral part of business operations. Content Protection Summit speakers on Sept. 22 include:

• Paul Chesney, head of NBCUniversal’s international operations, who will share how mandatory audit compliance and accreditation are key components to ensuring the protection of the studio’s pre-release content; and

• Spencer Mott, chief information secutiry officer of Electronic Arts and chairman of the Content Delivery & Storage Association, who will provide an overview of ways that content holders are combatting the threat of cyber attacks and online piracy.
