Important Security Updates

Adobe Flash Player: Adobe has released version 21.0.0.197 to fix a performance issue. Updates are available from Adobe’s website.

Apple iOS: Apple has released version 9.3 of its iOS to fix at least 39 vulnerabilities, some of which are highly critical, reported in previous versions. Updates are available through the device or through Apple’s website.

Apple iTunes: Apple has released version 12.3.3.17 (64-bit and 32-bit) of iTunes. Updates are available from Apple’s website.

Apple OS X: Apple has released updates for OS X El Capitan v10.11.4 and Security Update 2016-002 for OS X Mavericks v10.9.5, OS X Yosemite v10.10.5, and OS X El Capitan v10.11 to v10.11.3 to fix at least 59  vulnerabilities, some of which are highly critical, reported in previous versions. Updates are available from Apple’s website.

Apple OS X Server: Apple has released updates for OS X Server 5.1 for OS X Yosemite v10.10.5 and later to fix at least 4 vulnerabilities, some of which are highly critical, reported in previous versions. Updates are available from Apple’s website.

Apple Safari: Apple has released updates for Safari 9.1 for OS X Mavericks v10.9.5, OS X Yosemite v10.10.5, and OS X El Capitan v10.11 to v10.11.3 to fix at least 10 vulnerabilities. Updates are available from Apple’s website.

Comodo Free Firewall: Comodo has released version 8.2.0.4571 of its free firewall. Updates are available from Comodo’s website.

Comodo Internet Security: Comodo has released version 8.2.0.4978 of its free security suite. Updates are available from Comodo’s website.

Evernote: Evernote has released version 5.9.8.9906. Updates are available on Evernote’s website.

Google Chrome: Google has released Google Chrome version 49.0.2623.108. Updates are available from within the browser or from Google Chrome’s website.

Oracle Java: Oracle has released versions Java SE 8 Update 77 to fix a highly critical vulnerability. The update is available through Windows Control Panel or Java’s website. [See Citadel’s recommendation below]

Piriform CCleaner: Piriform has released version 5.16.5551 for CCleaner. Updates are available from Piriform’s website.

Skype: Skype has released Skype 7.22.0.104. Updates are available from the program or Skype’s website.

Dropbox 3.16.1 [Citadel warns against relying on security of Dropbox or other cloud-based file exchange systems. We recommend files containing sensitive information be independently encrypted with a program like Axcrypt; encryption keys be at least 15 characters long; and the master Dropbox [or other] password be at least 15 characters long and different from other passwords.]

Java SE 8 Update 77 [Citadel recommends removing or disabling Java from your browser. Java is a major source of cyber criminal exploits. It is not needed for most internet browsing. If you have a particular web site that requires Java, Citadel recommends using a two-browser approach to minimize risk. If you normally browse the Web with Firefox, for example, disable the Java plugin in Firefox and use an alternative browser — such as Chrome, IE9, Safari, etc — with Java enabled to browse only the sites that require it.]

Cisco Multiple Products: Cisco reports patched vulnerabilities in its Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS XE Software, Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 6800 Series Switches, Nexus 7000 and Nexus 7700 Series Switches, and Unified Communications Manager. Apply updates. Cisco also reports unpatched vulnerabilities in its Cisco IOS XR Software for Cisco Network Convergence System 6000 Series Routers. No workarounds are available. Novell Open Enterprise Server: Novell has released an update to fix multiple vulnerabilities in its Open Enterprise Server versions 11.2 and 2015 (OES 11 SP2 and OES 2015).  For version 11.2 apply patches oes11sp2-java-1_6_0-ibm-10873, oes11sp2-bind-10877 and oes11sp2-firefox-10879.  For version 2015 apply patches oes2015-java-1_6_0-ibm-10874, oes2015-bind-10878 and oes2015-firefox-10880.  Additional details are available at Novell’s website.
