BTI Studios Announces New Managing Director for APAC (MESA)

BTI recently started building new state-of-the-art studios in Bangkok, Thailand, and plan to expand into multiple Asian countries in the coming years. In his new role YC Sun will guide the continuing growth of the company in the Asian market. YC Sun brings vast experience in the television and media distribution business in Asia Pacific to his new post. He joins BTI from SDI Media, a global media localization provider, where he was VP Operations, Asia. Before this he worked for 17 years for Disney in senior technical roles. His expertise is widely recognized and respected in the localization industry, and ranges from strategic planning to operations, production and client services. The appointment follows BTI’s acquisition of leading Asian media house Medi-Lan. The acquisition, announced in April 2015 and formalized this year, brings the BTI name to Asia’s leading independent subtitling and dubbing company, with studios and subtitling units throughout Asia.

BTI Asia’s founders and directors will work alongside YC Sun, and continue to support company growth.

Björn Lifvergren, CEO, says: “The need for BTI to serve fast-growing demand across Asia for localized content and to offer clients in Asia quicker and easier access to distribute their own content globally drove both our acquisition of Medi-Lan and this key appointment. YC Sun brings dynamism, expertise and years of experience to this new role. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team.”

YC Sun says: “There has never been a more exciting time to work in the Asian localization market — and BTI Studios has positioned itself to be one of the key players. BTI is undoubtedly one of the most experienced and customer-focused localization companies in the world and I’m looking forward to bringing its exceptional offering to even more clients across Asia.”

Torun Chakrabarty, CEO of BTI Asia, adds: “This is an exciting and challenging time for localization companies as platforms and content expand and demand grows in the vast Asian market. It is essential that a serious player should have the best people on its team to meet this challenge. YC Sun certainly fits that description. We are looking forward to working with him.”
