Teradata, Ditto Labs Partner on AI Vision-as-a-Service (MESA)

You’ve heard of SaaS, PaaS, maybe even IaaS and ITaaS. But what about VaaS? Analytics solutions firm Teradata has partnered with machine-learning company Ditto Labs to incorporate vision as a service (VaaS) into its offerings, delivering cloud-based artificial intelligence solutions to its customers.

Ditto Labs’ platform offers data to enterprise marketing platforms by automatically tagging social media photos and by labeling most any source of visual data. The partnership will have Teradata offering its clients the ability to mine data via “deep learning and computer vision,” without them having to build and operate any in-house solutions, according to a statement from the companies.

“Unstructured data, such as that from imagery, is growing exponentially. This is true not just in terms of volume but also, more importantly, in the ways that the data is being analyzed and applied to business questions. Timely business decisions based on such data cannot be made without removing the need for a human reviewer to be involved,” said Bill Franks, chief analytics officer for Teradata. “Image recognition is one area where machine learning truly shines, so we are delighted to partner with Ditto to ensure our customers can augment data-driven business decisions with image-based insights.”

The hope is that via Ditto’s tech, Teradata will be able to add previously un-used data from images to offer clients new — and valuable — information.

“Off-the-shelf dictionaries that automagically label visual content like photos and videos only serve enterprises if what they need is already in the dictionary of labels,” said David Rose, CEO of Ditto Labs. “Many businesses need the ability to find signals of consumer behavior or match photos to products in their catalog. Each client needs their own dictionary and Ditto’s machine learning platform delivers this.”
