Vast Media Smart Screen Round-Up: Premiere League on Snapchat, Nat Geo Trivia

Here’s a run-down of recent second screen-related entertainment items, via Berlin-based research and consulting company Vast Media.

• Manchester United Football Club TV, the dedicated OTT service for the popular U.K. soccer team, has expanded to new streaming outlets, including Apple TV, Xbox, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. The service was previously available as an app on iOS and Android devices, and online at MUTV.com.

Last season, MUTV had a reach of 35 million homes, but the addition of all the new platforms should allow the team to connect with even more of its 650 million follows.

The app includes a free section for non-members, while subscribers can access everything, including live coverage of pre-season matches, replays of classic games, pre- and post-game analysis, and more.

• To expand its coverage of the upcoming 2018-19 season of the Premiere League, NBC is debuting a dedicated show on Snapchat. “Premiere League: Extra Time will be found on the app’s Discovery page with full, three-minute episodes running all season long.

NBC pointed to Snapchat’s 80 million unique viewers who used the app for World Cup content as a major reason for the new show.

Episodes will be hosted by TYT Sports soccer analyst Francis Maxwell, and will include game-specific stories submitted by users.

• Paired with the four-night multi-platform programming event “Yellowstone Line,” National Geographic in August teamed up with live trivia game app HQ for a new national parks-themed game, offering users a chance to win $10,000.

Players who downloaded the app via the Google Play or Apple app stores were presented with a set of national park-themed questions that needed to be answered within 10 seconds. Users who answered all the questions correctly were eligible for a piece of the $10,000 prize.

• For the second season of its crime drama “The Sinner,” USA Network launched a new, season-long interactive experience, dubbed “The Sinner: Neighborhood Watch,” which invites fans of the show to continue the investigation online, interact with residents of the show’s fictional town, and explore additional storylines.

To join, fans are encouraged to visit TheSinnerNeighborhoodWatch.com, create an account, and personalize their information.
