Digital Nirvana Tackles Smart Captioning at Smart Content Summit EU

Digital Nirvana used its presentation at the recent Smart Content Summit EU event to share use cases around how artificial intelligence and machine learning have helped revolutionize subtitle creation, via the company’s enterprise-level, cloud-based closed captioning offering Trance.

Russell Vijayan, head of AI products and services, and SVP Russell Wise offered several examples of how Digital Nirvana and Trance are addressing the needs of broadcast media companies, via the automatic generation of captions, subtitles, and metadata, across media production, post-production, and distribution workflows.

Along with delivery of greater productivity, the use cases showed shorter turnaround times and improvement of both the speed and accuracy of the captioning process, helping to achieve productivity gains of 35% and more, compared to conventional desktop captioning applications and on-prem workflows.

One example for a daily show that previously took 15-20 hours to create a standard montage clip used Trance to reduce that time to two hours, while another example showed a client who needed to automate the in-house captioning process and be in compliance with the needs of a major streaming platform was able to automate transcriptions in real time.

Vijayan and Wise also shared examples where examples where Trance users repurposed captions for different countries, and redid entire workflows to better assign, prioritize and monitor projects.
