Friend MTS Examines Pandemic Piracy at Dec. 8 CPS Event

The pandemic has brought content into the home in ways — and volumes — nobody could have predicted. But the fact pirates are making runs at valuable first-run films and shows in the living room is no surprise to anyone at all.

At the Dec. 8 virtual Content Protection Summit Brad Parobek, SVP of sales for the Americas for Friend MTS, will go over what’s been witnessed on the piracy front thus far, covering live sports, first-run movies, film festivals, Broadway and live music concerts.

“During this transformative time in entertainment when there is so much value placed upon live and first-run content premiering at home, the time is now for companies to implement proven technologies to quite literally stop pirates in their tracks and protect against revenue loss,” Parobek said. “I will let attendees in on our trade secrets, including the most secure ways to fight piracy through fingerprinting, watermarking and takedown notices.”

The presentation — “Blocking the Pirate in the Room – Subscribers Aren’t the Only Ones Anxiously Awaiting New Releases” — will see Parobek stress that the best way to confront piracy, no matter the content, is via a collaborative approach.”

“The reality is that there is great risk of piracy when highly anticipated live sports and music, first-run movies, Broadway shows and even film festivals are increasingly broadcasting and streaming from the comfort of the viewers home,” he said. “I will inform attendees how we can come together as an industry to protect the most precious asset we have, live first-run content, from large-scale highly sophisticated content theft.”

Presented by Microsoft Azure, the event is sponsored by SHIFT, Genpact, Akamai, Convergent Risks, Friend MTS, GeoGuard, PacketFabric, Palo Alto Networks, Richey May Technology Solutions, Splunk, Zixi, Cyberhaven, EIDR and Xcapism Learning.

The Content Protection Summit is produced by MESA, CDSA, the Hollywood IT Society (HITS) and Women in Technology Hollywood (WiTH), under the direction of the CDSA Board of Directors and content advisors representing Amazon Studios, Adobe, Paramount, BBC Studios, NBCUniversal, Lionsgate, WarnerMedia, Amblin Entertainment, Legendary Pictures, and Lego Group.
