NAGRA Tackles MAM at Smart Content Summit EU

Pay TV operators, VOD providers, content rights owners and aggregators alike need the right tools to take full control of their content. With the right media asset management (MAM) and content preparation tools, they can solve most any content supply chain issue, and time-to-market challenges for their premium assets, without sacrificing security or quality.

That was the message from Shubham Bhattacharya, director of strategic portfolio management for NAGRA at the Nov. 5 Smart Content Summit EU event, in the presentation “Media Asset Management: Take Control of your Content.”

He shared how NAGRA — which partners with most every major studio and most every major platform — has helped enable $100 billion-plus in revenue with its MAM cinema, physical and VOD distribution. Bhattacharya sees no slowing down on that front in the European market, estimating 3.3 million assets across TVOD and SVOD services next year that will need to be processed to meet the content consumption appetites of consumers.

A fragmented geographic and language landscape creates both opportunities and challenges, he said, with roughly a million unique film titles needing distribution to worldwide audiences across all VOD services. In Europe alone, NAGRA estimates there are 475 TV operators, and just under 775 pay TV set-top-box middleware platforms. That’s a lot of distributors targeting a lot of different audiences.

Using the right MAM solution means distributing the workload, reducing error rates, and maintaining control on content flow, all at the same time, he added. It removes the complexity out of multi-territory, multi-language content preparation, via automated workflows.
