Descriptive Video Works Head to Talk Audio Description at 25 Feb. CWMF Event

Unless you’re blind or otherwise visually impaired, it’s hard to put yourself in the shoes of someone who can’t experience films and TV shows the way everyone else does.

At “M&E’s Premiere Localisation Event” — the 25 Feb. Content Workflow Management Forum — Rhys Lloyd, studio head for Keywords Studios’ Descriptive Video Works, aims to help attendees to change that, by helping them explore the experience of blind and low-vision audiences, and the impact that audio description has on inclusivity.

“Attendees can expect to gain a tangible understanding of what a blind or low vision viewer experiences from programming that lacks audio description,” said Lloyd about his presentation “The Impact of AD in Creating Unique Experiences and Enabling Inclusivity.” “They will then gain insight into how rich and evocative the experience can be through the incorporation of description and embrace the idea that we should describe everything.”

Lloyd will “engage your imagination,” touch on how far the industry has come in providing content accessibility, and outline a vision for the future where everything is described on the content front while viewing, offering those who need it a better opportunity to engage.

Leading language service providers, content creators, AI and technology companies, and broadcast and OTT executives will be on hand for the event, running 12:20-17:30 GMT, with other topics on the programme including:

• “Sustainability in Media & Entertainment”
• “The Implementation of AI and Machine Translation Technologies”
• “Ways to Enable Increased Workflow Efficiencies Within Localisation Supply Chains”
• “Innovative Solutions to Solve the Perennial Issue of Talent & Resourcing Within Localisation”
• “Access Services”

The Content Workflow Management Forum is produced by MESA, the Smart Content Council, and the Hollywood IT Society, with sponsorship by Whip Media Group, Deluxe, Digital Nirvana, Meta, OOONA, Vubiquity, Nexus TV, Titles-On, EIDR, Keywords Studios and Signiant.
