MicroStrategy, ABC Talk Real-Time Data at HITS Spring

At the May 12 Hollywood Innovation and Transformation Summit (HITS) Spring event, MicroStrategy and data experts from The Walt Disney Co. and ABC Owned TV Stations will offer two different discussions around how real-time data analytics are empowering on-air news decision-making.

First up on the main stage at the event, Jim Whelehan, senior account executive for M&E at MicroStrategy, and Sahand Sepehrnia, executive director of content strategy and analysis for The Walt Disney Co., will offer an inside look at how ABC Owned TV Stations and MicroStrategy are innovating the way data is enabling real-time news decisions, in the presentation “Breaking (Down) the News: A New Evolution in Real-Time Data Empowerment.”

Converging historical and real-time data, management teams and entire newsrooms can pace against goals, deploy resources against top and trending stories, and optimize editorial and programming.

There is not another industry where real time analytics has an immediate and precise call to action as it does in the newsrooms across the U.S. and around the world,” Whelehan said. “Come see how Disney ABC TV-owned stations (for example KABC in Los Angeles), are using MicroStrategy’s analytics platform to consolidate real time mobile and desktop platform news engagements with deployment of news trucks and also track KPIs at the viewership level.

“Seeing the workflow of the data, to consolidation of the real time algorithms and the KPI dashboards, all attendees will see how a platform like MicroStrategy can handle the real time analytics being thrusted upon all business engagements with their consumer base.”

Then, in the breakout follow-up session “Unlocking the Power of Real-Time Data in Today’s News Environment,” Whelehan will be joined by Michael Stirk, senior manager of data architecture and business intelligence for ABC Owned TV Stations, as the share how a streamlined reporting system is driving “sticky stories” and precise deployment of production efforts, with bespoke dashboards clarifying information across all levels of ABC local news operations.

HITS Spring is programmed under the guidance of the content advisors of the Hollywood IT Society, and is produced by MESA and the Hollywood IT Society (HITS), in association with the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA) and the Smart Content Council.
