PacketFabric CEO Talks Visual Effects and the Cloud July 21 at EES

With visual effects companies faced with an ever-increasing workload, the past year-plus saw new workflows emerge, allowing alternatives to in-person production.

According to Dave Ward, CEO of network-as-a-service platform PacketFabric, these new advanced techniques for content creation and virtual productions, are here to stay. On July 21 at the inaugural, all-virtual Entertainment Evolution Symposium, Ward will be joined by John Canning, executive producer of visual effects and digital production firm Digital Domain, to discuss the future of these workflows in the presentation “Visual Effects and the Cloud.”

“Learn how VFX companies are using the cloud to help prepare for the upcoming slate of fall movie releases, and why some are opting for a hybrid approach,” Ward said. “Yes, private connectivity and the cloud reduce costs for productions and VFX companies. But how exactly does this affect the studio’s bottom line and start to shift the economics of TV and filmmaking?

“This session addresses the network infrastructure needed to support a ‘cloud core’ or full multi-cloud ecosystem, with all its tools and services. Spoiler: it’s not 5G.”

The Hollywood IT Society (HITS) and Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School are teaming up to present the event, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT, which features a central theme revolving around unlocking value with data analytics.

Produced by MESA, the Entertainment Evolution Symposium is a partnership between the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School and HITS, with an advisory committee represented by MESA, Pepperdine, Amazon Web Services, Apple, The David Bishop Group and TwentyOne14 Media.

The event is sponsored by Whip Media, PacketFabric, 5th Kind, EIDR and the Trusted Partner Network.
