HITS 2023: MicroStrategy Offers Guide to a Modern Studio

CULVER CITY, Calif. — At the May 23 Hollywood Innovation and Transformation Summit (HITS) at The Culver Theater, David Swan, manager of sales engineering for MicroStrategy, had a message for attendees: you’re probably not doing enough with analytics.

“We need to have a true analytics approach in order to have a really efficient infrastructure to drive new growth, new pipelines, even do new generative AI for scripts,” he said during his presentation “MicroStrategy One: Guide to a Modern Studio.” “Analytics only matter if they drive value.”

He shared research that showed a mere 21 percent of business executives say that their organizations were “very effective” at using data and analytics to improve business performance, and only 31 percent of CEOs say they were “very effective” at using data and analytics to drive business decisions. Only 39 percent of business leaders said their organizations had a “very good” or “excellent” understanding of the data they were using, “which is kind of terrifying,” Swan said.

Being able to interpret big data patterns like viewing behavior and user feedback cycles has helped studios decide what to produce and where to have it consumed, with Swan pointing to Netflix’s exceptional use of viewer data to accurately predict the success of “House of Cards” before it even launched. Without data you’re making decisions based on instinct, and that doesn’t fly today, he added.

Enter MicroStrategy One, the company’s open, cloud-powered analytics platform, that boasts sleek interfaces, interactive content, action-oriented workflows, all based on REST and Python.

The offering promises to help studios learn absolutely everything they need to know about audiences to help inform what to develop next.

The product gives users answers from data quickly and easily and can be fully personalized and integrates data in existing product workflows.

And MicroStrategy has taken a knew tact with its products: previously the company released products on 18-month release cycles. Now, each month teams debut a suite of new capabilities our customers.

In his guide to analytics modernization, Swan said it’s best to modernize the data experience of all users, and do so by embracing simplicity, don’t rebuild what exists today that already work, challenge assumptions, and reassess the problem to be solved, and leverage HyperIntelligence and embedded workflows to reach users where they live.
