Linda Burman is CEO of L. A. Burman Associates Inc., a boutique
consultancy providing “smart content processes” including:
requirements gathering, excellent metadata practices, automating
content workflows, rights management, and optimizing DAM systems.

At Kaiser Permanente, Linda optimized the DAM to make marketing
teams more effective. At WellPoint she showed Creatives that a DAM
and ‘smart’ processes could remove drudgery. At Thompson she
created a new taxonomy for online research and at Pearson, she led
the development of the company-wide rights metadata standard.

But why international standards?
At Apple, as Publishing Evangelist, she learned passion for hardware
standards. At SoftQuad, developer HTML-based authoring, she
learned the value of interoperability standards. For IDEAlliance, she
chaired the PRISM (Publishing Requirements for Industry Standard
Metadata) WG, which developed a metadata standard for magazine
content.

The IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) is an
international consortium of news and media organizations and
technology providers providing metadata and news standards for
over 50 years. Members, such as the BBC, New York Times, the
Associated Press, Getty Images and Adobe, set industry standards
such as the Video Metadata Hub: a core set of metadata fields and a
cross-mapping table across most of the industry standard bodies.
Linda is also an instructor at Ryerson University and in the Continuing
Education Department at the University of Toronto.

Linda holds an Honours BA in Literature from the University of
Toronto and a Masters in Education from Boston University.
