The Director of Digital Products & Technology is responsible for defining and executing the strategy of Sprout’s digital platforms, and overseeing budget and implementation of all feature improvements and future platform rollouts.
Working closely with the Director of Digital Content, and managing relationships with centralized technology teams, their primary goal will be to drive consistent improvements and innovation wherever our audience engages with Sprout digitally.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Digital Product Strategy:
• Develop a comprehensive strategic plan for our products and platforms, which aligns with the wider Sprout strategy, and implement an actionable roadmap of releases/launches that demonstrate measurable growth within a defined budget.
• Implementation of development timeline and methodologies, ensuring timely delivery of products and services.
Platform Improvements:
• Constantly look for ways to increase our audience’s engagement value through incremental feature changes.
• Use metrics and data analysis to define a comprehensive understanding of our audience and how we can serve them most effectively.
• Evaluation and recommendation of middleware and external technology solutions.
Innovation:
• Focus on identifying emerging platforms where Sprout can have a presence that will drive value for our business.
• Evaluate and suggest new technology solutions for both internal teams and Sprout’s audience
• Explore potential technology partnerships and new business models, externally and within the wider NBCU/Comcast organization.
• Create new processes to streamline development and implementation
Relationship Building:
• Manage Sprout’s relationship with third party vendors, and recommend new ones that can increase our digital value.
• Responsible for managing a staff member.
• Own relationships with centralized NBCU technology teams, ensuring we are aligned with the wider cable organization, and prioritized for growth.
• Interface closely with Content, Finance, Legal and Distribution teams.
Knowledge of COPPA regulation and compliance requirements as relates to children using online and digital products
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience in the entertainment industry
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
• Experience programming in PHP, Java or C/C++
• Experience in database development, especially MySQL
• Experience with a web content management system like Drupal, Joomla or Alfresco
• Proficiency with industry standard project management software such as Jira and Confluence.
• Experience developing and designing large web sites
• Familiarity with application server, portal, document management, content management, and knowledge management technologies
• Experience with content adaptation and game or web services/application development
