The Legal Department provides core legal support to all Dolby functions, runs several IP-centric businesses, and leads government relations.

The Sr. Manager of Business Strategy is a critical strategic thought partner in shaping the framework and models to create overall long-term plans for our IP Businesses. You will lead the Business Strategy team to help define strategy and navigate market climate through strategic long-term planning, market research, and business insights. This requires developing a deep understanding of Dolby IP businesses and technologies. You will develop the organization’s research and planning muscle and play a key role in orchestrating the plan’s executions through proactive communications with business leaders to achieve alignments.

Responsibilities

Business strategy and long-term planning
Lead and design a long-term strategy model for Patent Licensing and to scale its operations, aligning with the broader department and corporate goals
Manage long-term strategic annual refresh process
Collaborate with internal subject matter experts and external advisors to align on current and future operations/execution plans
Provide data and insights necessary for the development of long-term strategy and lead strategic planning activities
Initiate and engage in discussions with business leaders to gain knowledge to identify problems or advantages
Monitor progress of strategy and plan, and support short-term forecasting exercises
Continuously improve the long-term planning process

Market Insights
Follow market data & trends, and incorporate insights into strategy
Oversees analysis of markets and industry trends to gain insights critical to the development of short-term and long-term strategic plans
Incorporating Market Intelligence data in forecast and strategy to better understand current market sentiment and anticipate the future market trajectory

Communications
Create narrative and articulate business, insights, and strategy clearly through data storytelling and various business presentations

Research Doc
Lead complex, cross-functional priority research initiatives

Skills, Experiences, and Education

MBA or J.D., a technical undergraduate degree is a plus
8+ years of experience preferably in business strategy, management consulting
Strong presentation skills – the ability to create clear and concise PowerPoint presentations for internal and external presentation
Articulate with excellent writing and communication skills
Advanced Excel skills
Self-initiative and ability to work with minimum direction
Ability to digest Market / Financials data and knowledge of asset and cash flow valuation techniques and methodologies
Strong strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations
Domain knowledge in the following product markets:
Consumer electronics
Wireless communications
Broadcast
Nice to Have:
Knowledge of multimedia codecs and their various use cases
Prior patent and/or technology licensing experience
