Dome Digital to Showcase Second Screen SideCar at NAB

By Lyndsey Schaefer

Dome Productions’ core business is its technology innovations and client solutions for large-scale production, distribution and transmission services. But to support its new digital media strategy, Dome has recently expanded its portfolio with the introduction of Dome Digital Services, which launched in September 2012.

As part of the Dome Digital launch, at NAB, Dome will showcase its Dome Digital media production vehicle, SideCar, a companion TV trailer that supports web streaming and small productions. This vehicle aims to provide the client what they need to bring a broadcast quality production to the second screen. SideCar is a multi-platform fan experience supporting the primary broadcast with second screen applications, exclusive, behind-the-scenes content, and interaction through social media.

“Our whole objective is to play an integral role to have the broadcaster provide a whole second screen experience for the consumer to make it a better broadcast,” says Bruce Gaum, Director of Client Solutions & Technology, Dome Productions. “Our goal is to get people to see how important this side of it is to the creation of the second screen experience.”

SideCar will serve the second screen in a different way to give the viewer a better experience while keeping them engaged on both screens, Gaum explains. For example, for a major hockey game, SideCar would tie into the larger production by taking all of the replays and different camera angles to stream out and provide different options for the viewer. They can download apps, choose from various camera perspectives and engage in social media conversations, improving and expanding the reach of the broadcast over multiple platforms. SideCar was also utilized in the 2012 World Series.

Next up for Dome Digital is the development of the second screen companion side to get advertisers engaged, Gaum says.

“The 30-second commercial model doesn’t work on the web – we need to have integrated apps,” Gaum says.

SideCar will be showcased at booth # OE845 during NAB. To book an appointment during NAB, please contact: Angela Coates, [email protected]
