HITS Panel to Examine TV Production in the Digital World

By Lyndsey Schaefer

The landscape of television, from production to distribution and OTT platform expansion has presented great challenges for the industry. With the growth of streaming of episodic content and VOD coupled with the impact of social media and web-enabled devices expanding usage of content anywhere, the digital production workflow continues to evolve as technology opportunities arise.

The digital workflow from concept to delivery faces the challenges of systematization, efficiency, quality and timeliness. At the Hollywood IT Summit on May 7 in Malibu, top television studio executives will address these unique opportunities to enhance the overall supply chain as it relates to integrated systems, metadata, automation, script and contract management, budgeting and scheduling, document management, spend tracking and analysis, business intelligence, mobility demands, archiving, APIs and management reporting. The expansion of the industry offers a unique challenge to IT to address these innovations, while staying mindful of security, cost and efficiency.

“The HITS organization has been successful in bringing together a ‘think tank’ of IT leaders in studio distribution,” says panelist Alex Grimwade of Fox. “We thought it would be advantageous to apply the HITS principles of the IT ecosystem to a television- specific group.”

The afternoon panel, “Building the TV Production and Distribution Digital Workflow: A Call to Action!” features Sean Cooney, Vice President, Advanced Production Technology, Warner Bros.; Chris Coye, Senior Vice President & CIO, Disney ABC Television Group; Alex Grimwade, Vice President Information Technology, Twentieth Century Fox Television; Ivan Gueron, Divisional Chief Information Officer, Sony Pictures Entertainment; and Tom Roach, Vice President, Worldwide Theatrical Distribution, Marketing & Production, Warner Bros. The panel will be moderated by Devendra Mishra, HITS Conference Chairman.

“Although we are in a competitive industry, the moment calls out for the efficiencies of standards and shared solutions. To that end, we are leveraging the principles of the HITS organization to put together this group of Television IT leaders,” says Grimwade.
