NAB Show: ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones,’ ‘Ready Player One’ Filmmakers on Hand (MESA)

The NAB Show Creative Master Series Conference will feature creatives and filmmakers behind “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Black Panther” and “Ready Player One” in three separate sessions. The sessions will take place Monday, April 9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

In “Janusz Kaminski: Three Decades of Image Making,” the multiple-Oscar-winning cinematographer will discuss his historic collaboration with director Steven Spielberg, his on-set creative process and working in virtual production for the first time on “Ready Player One.” Kaminski’s DP credits include “Minority Report,” “Lincoln,” “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” and “Saving Private Ryan,” among others.

The session, produced in collaboration with the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600, will be moderated by David Geffner, executive editor of ICG Magazine.

“’Black Panther’: Telling a Superhero Story Like No Other” will feature a conversation between Michael P. Shawver, film editor; Steve Boeddeker, sound designer/supervisor and re-recording mixer; and Geoffrey Baumann, visual effects supervisor. The trio will explore how picture editorial, sound, and visual effects departments worked together and with director Ryan Coogler to create one of the year’s biggest hits.

“’Marvel’s Jessica Jones’: The Art of Darkness”* will include Melissa Rosenberg, series creator, showrunner, and executive producer; Manuel Billeter, director of photography; and Tony D’Amore, senior colorist. The panel will explore the genesis of the series’ look, high-contrast lighting, working in High Dynamic Range (HDR), and more. The panel will be moderated by Alicia Lutes, managing editor, Nerdist, and host/creator, Fangirling.

As previously announced, the Creative Master Series will also include the session “The VFX Wizardry Behind ‘Stranger Things 2′,” produced in partnership with Adobe and featuring visual effects artists behind the popular new series.
