IBC 2018: AWS to Highlight Cloud Advancements (MESA)

At IBC 2018, Amazon Web Services will highlight cloud advancements along the entire content chain. Demonstrations will feature advanced cloud-based media services that support content creation, content distribution, and access to a rich media supply chain. From the Royal Wedding to Formula 1 and the record-shattering Indian Premier League finals, AWS will showcase how media customers innovate with reliable cloud services that make it fast and easy to develop multiscreen video offerings, with pay-as-you-go pricing and without significant capital investment.

AWS will showcase a host of technology for content production and distribution designed to improve video quality, minimize bandwidth and storage capacity, and optimize viewing experiences – including cloud and on-premises AWS Elemental solutions that streamline ingest, production, processing, delivery, and networking as well as AWS Thinkbox to aid with content production. Visitors to the stand 5.C80, RAI Amsterdam will see demos of machine learning services for building AI applications, cloud-based asset management and archive solutions and cloud-based virtual workstations as well QVBR, CMAF, and HDR.

• Quality-Defined Variable Bitrate Control – QVBR is a video compression technique that automatically adjusts to the complexity of source content, maintaining high-quality video while reducing storage and distribution costs.

• CMAF for OTT Distribution – Support for the Common Media Application Format (CMAF) lets customers realize video quality improvements, increase compression efficiency, and benefit from simplification of content creation and storage.

• High Dynamic Range – Conversion of any combination of HLG, HDR10, and SDR sources for playout as HDR10 and HLG channels at any resolution enables broadcasters to quickly and cost-effectively bring HDR channels to market with a mix of existing SDR and HDR content.
Content-Aware Advertising Insertion – Using image, object, and scene detection, AWS services enable advertising tailored to broadcast content for cost-effective monetization of live or on-demand video.

• Automated Metadata Extraction and Analysis – Cloud-based approaches to unlocking the value of content libraries integrates machine learning and analytics services to automatically extract metadata from live or on-demand video streams with a combination of Amazon Transcribe, AWS Elemental MediaConvert, AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaPackage, Amazon Rekognition, and Amazon Kinesis Video Streams.

• Automated Transcription and Translation – Machine learning tools, including Amazon Transcribe, Amazon Translate, AWS Lambda, along with AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaPackage, and Amazon CloudFront video services, comprise an intelligent workflow that performs automated speech transcription from video clips and translation of those clips into multiple languages.

• Automated Sports Highlights and Graphics Creation – Amazon Rekognition and AWS Media Services enable automatic creation of highlight clips and on-screen graphics for live sports without user intervention. This demonstration showcases the automation of live production services.

• Robust Ingest to the Cloud – An AWS Elemental Live small form factor appliance ingests live video to AWS Elemental MediaStore, showcasing simple-to-use, cost-efficient contribution to the cloud for low-power, space-constrained, or remote facilities. Additionally, AWS Elemental Live support for JPEG 2000 over TR-01 input provides a high-quality contribution input to the cloud for live broadcast distribution.

• Low-latency Live Streaming – AWS Elemental Live, AWS Elemental MediaStore, and Amazon CloudFront processing, origin, and delivery services provide faster-than-broadcast live streaming video workflows using standard HLS or DASH protocols.

• Over-the-Top Delivery to Popular Platforms – AWS Elemental MediaLive creates RTMP and RTMPs outputs for secure and reliable OTT delivery of live channel content from the cloud to popular social media platforms like YouTube or Facebook.

• AWS Thinkbox Deadline and Amazon EC2 Spot | VFX Virtual Workstations – A rendering administration and compute management toolkit, AWS Thinkbox Deadline helps manage workloads on-premises or in the cloud, resulting in extreme scalability as well as cost-optimization using Amazon EC2 Spot Instances. In addition to burst rendering in the cloud, virtual workstations help enable studios to securely scale creative talent anywhere in the world by using Amazon EC2 G3 instances and Teradici software.
AWS Demonstration Partners

Amazon Web Services will host several members of the Amazon Partner Network on stand 5.C80 at IBC. Members will share AWS-enabled solutions for content creation, content rights management, digital asset management, as well as solutions enabled by artificial intelligence for metadata creation, transcription, and workflow automation. In addition, AWS service teams will be on hand to discuss the media and entertainment capabilities of AWS compute and storage solutions, the Amazon CloudFront CDN and Amazon Rekognition image analysis.
