RCN Looks to TiVo’s Next-Gen Platform (MESA)

Northeastern cable operator RCN Telecom Services announced April 24 that it will use TiVo’s Next-Gen Platform video solution for its digital TV customers, and expand that solution to its Grande Communications Networks and WaveDivision Holdings properties as well.

The agreement will see RCN deploy TiVo’s IPTV suite of products — including TiVo solutions for Android TV, streaming devices and mobile — to enable the delivery of VOD, linear, catch-up and network DVR content to subscribers on set-tops and unmanaged devices, including Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and more.

“After reviewing a number of solutions on the market, we were impressed with TiVo’s Next-Gen Platform and their commitment to helping us bring forth a compelling user experience, personalized recommendations, advanced voice functionality and multi-platform support to our customers,” said Patrick Murphy, CTO of RCN, Grande and Wave. “Additionally, TiVo’s IPTV products provide advanced video solutions for our broadband-only subscribers and enhance the RCN viewing experience across mobile platforms.”

TiVo’s Next-Gen Platform will bring RCN subscribers advanced search and recommendations, hyper-personalization, voice control and universal discovery across content platforms, with the goal of reducing subscriber churn, and driving better customer engagement, according to Jeffrey Glahn, VP of sales for TiVo.

“We are excited to continue working with RCN and providing their customers with a feature-rich and highly personalized user experience that they can take with them across their favorite devices. TiVo’s future-proof product portfolio provides the flexibility, scalability and next-gen IPTV services that will enable RCN to demonstrate market leadership in an ever-evolving entertainment landscape.”
