GrayMeta Iris Media Platform Tapped by Sky UK (MESA)

British broadcaster Sky UK has teamed up with AI-powered metadata company GrayMeta to integrate GrayMeta’s Iris Media Platform across its ultra-high definition (UHD) content workflows, to better drive efficiencies and quality control. Sky UK is using the Iris Media Platform for all its UHD, HDR and IMF content workflows, with quality control operators now able to monitor technical metadata and produce audio loudness analysis.

The use of environmental profiles and templates is allowing Sky to remove the need for QC operators to manually comb through lines of technical data to compare in-house or external requirements.

Iris — which is used by used by content owners, studios, and broadcasters around the world — is being used by Sky UK to also improve collaboration across QC teams, the companies said. The enterprise media playback and QC solution features open APIs, enabling users to quickly and accurately collaborate and deliver content, with true reference playback of complex IMF packages and other files in both SDR and HDR formats.

“GrayMeta has helped us handle the complexities of IMF with ease and validate important HDR metadata,” said Ashley Ross, technical operations manager for Sky. “The reference player is used to drive quality control through our supply chain and provides us the confidence that our viewers are getting the best experience when they watch our UHD content.”

Matt Eaton, managing director of GrayMeta, added: “It’s been great working with Sky to understand how our Iris Media Platform could integrate into their supply chain using our APIs which now helps their QC teams ensure UHD and IMF content is being delivered at optimum quality. Iris has helped automate some of the manual QC operations allowing the team more time to address other elements of their role.”

The GrayMeta Iris Media Platform will be exhibited at IBC 2019 at Hall 7.D25. To book a demonstration, email [email protected].
