MESA’s Content Localisation Council Talks Market Trends

MESA’s Content Localisation Council met Oct. 11 at the offices of Warner Bros. Discovery to network and talk market trends. The meeting, held in-person and online, was attended by nearly 50 senior localization executives from across the M&E industry, including Hollywood studios, broadcasters, and key content holders.

The session provided an opportunity for industry peers and colleagues to catch up and review how the localization industry is dealing with continued high demand for content, which shows no sign of abating. The need for greater diversity and encouraging new talent was another hot topic.

Programming for the Content Localisation Council’s annual summit — which is being rebranded to ITS: Localisation — the largest gathering in M&E for the localization community, was also on the agenda, with the event scheduled for next February in London.

The group also discussed the Cloud Localization Blueprint, an initiative which was developed as part of the IBC Accelerator Programme.

At the Nov. 15 British Hollywood Innovation & Transformation Summit (BHITS), attendees will hear more about the Cloud Localization Blueprint.

Caroline Baines, MESA’s director of client services, will be on hand in Berlin at the Languages and the Media conference and exhibition Nov. 7-9, and will take part in a panel on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

The session, “Change is the One Constant in Localisation,” will look at the status of the localisation industry both now and in the future, as well as the need to foster new talent and encourage greater diversity, and discuss the role technology plays and how it can co-exist with human creativity to ensure that content of all types continues to be enjoyed by global audiences.

The Cloud Localisation Blueprint will be among the topics discussed.

The Content Localisation Council was established in 2016 with a mission to support the content localization industry by providing a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and open discussion. It seeks to promote the role that localization plays in ensuring content can reach global audiences and to keep all members of the group informed of industry developments, including the role of technology, legislative changes and the introduction of any standards or best practice procedures.
