Whip Media: ‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Barbie’ to Draw Crowds

Anticipation is high for both Oppenheimer and Barbie, hitting theaters this week, with 77 percent of respondents to Whip Media’s TV Time tracking app saying they were a 4 or 5 on a 1-5 scale regarding how excited they were to see Barbie. For Oppenheimer, that number jumps to 86 percent.

For Oppenheimer, the biggest driver of interest is the creators, including writer and director Christopher Nolan (about 40 percent), while for Barbie, it’s the cast (52 percent), including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

When it comes to how consumers are hearing about the two films, social media (52 percent) is largely behind Barbie, while for Oppenheimer it’s both social media (33 percent) and the trailer (32 percent) that have driven interest.

Perhaps surprisingly, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny generated less interest among TV Time respondents than the two upcoming releases.

Whip Media’s surveys were fielded in mid-June (June 7-9 for Indiana Jones, June 13 for Barbie, and June 13-14 for Oppenheimer.) The respondents were users of TV Time, Whip Media’s TV and movie tracking app with more than 26 million global registered users.
