International Digital Centre Launches Podcast Division with Scripted Comedy ‘FUNYC’

IDC announced the launch of their podcast division with the scripted romp FUNYC. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Emily Eden, and geared toward women ages 18-49, the show follows the exploits of bubbly Brit Holly Hudson as she lands in New York City and sets out to chase her dreams in the Big Apple.

New episodes launch every Tuesday through May.

Eden, the writer, star, and co-creator, described the premise in her own words: “What if Bridget Jones joined the cast of ‘Sex and the City’? The love interest, ‘will they won’t they’…dead bodies, con artists, champagne, pigeons…it is a story, somewhat, very loosely, based off of my life.”

Each meticulously produced episode features multiple actors in various roles, and a fully realised sound design by audio engineer Louis Fisher.

Fisher’s wealth of mixing experience sets “FUNYC” apart from the pack with its rich sonic landscapes, which fully bring the listener into Holly’s vibrant world.

Co-creator, producer, and director Eric Wickstrom enthused, “I can’t explain how proud I am to have my name attached to this scripted podcast project. I’m completely in awe of everything [Fisher] has accomplished with these episodes of Emily’s great novel.”

Executive Producer (and IDC Founder, President and CEO) Marcy Gilbert agreed wholeheartedly: “I couldn’t think of a better project to introduce our podcast division to the
world.”

In addition to the scripted episodes, IDC is also releasing a companion podcast, FUNYC Unscripted, where each week, Wickstrom and Eden sit down with an influential New Yorker to talk about life in the Big Apple.

Past guests have included veteran Broadway actress Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, fashion designer Jasmine Chong, accessibility consultant Maria Porto, and plant-based chef Guy Vaknin.

FUNYC is now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, and everywhere you listen to podcasts.
