Cyberhaven Talks Pros, Cons of DLP at Dec. 8 CPS

At the Dec. 8 virtual Content Protection Summit Jared Thorkelson, data protection SME for Cyberhaven, will pose an important question: are legacy data loss prevention (DLP) technologies enough to protect your sensitive data and intellectual property?

His breakout presentation — “Protecting Sensitive Data with Context and Perfect Recall” — will explore the pros and cons of DLP and how to improve your approach with context and perfect recall.

Earlier in December, Thorkelson offered attendees of a webinar https://www.cdsaonline.org/2020/12/02/cyberhaven-why-dynamic-data-tracing-is-more-effective-than-dlp a preview of the presentation, by comparing DLP to Christopher Nolan’s thriller Memento, sharing why Cyberhaven’s solution using Dynamic Data Tracing offers M&E organizations a superior option to DLP.

“It’s probably no surprise if I say DLP has sparked a spirited debate in the industry” since it was introduced about 17 years ago,” he said during the webinar. You might think the technology, by now, “would be mature and effective, but it’s not really the case,” he said, adding: “The technology today is pretty much the same [as] it was a decade ago, with very little innovation to drive improvement and effectiveness.”

Cyberhaven is “changing the data protection landscape, kind of in the same way that endpoint detection and response tools like CrowdStrike … changed the antivirus market,” he said.

Presented by Microsoft Azure, the event is sponsored by SHIFT, Genpact, Akamai, Convergent Risks, Friend MTS, GeoGuard, PacketFabric, Palo Alto Networks, Richey May Technology Solutions, Splunk, Zixi, EIDR, Cyberhaven and Xcapism Learning.

The Content Protection Summit is produced by MESA, CDSA, the Hollywood IT Society (HITS) and Women in Technology Hollywood (WiTH), under the direction of the CDSA Board of Directors and content advisors representing Amazon Studios, Adobe, Paramount, BBC Studios, NBCUniversal, Lionsgate, WarnerMedia, Amblin Entertainment, Legendary Pictures, and Lego Group.
