BB: Europe Dominates First Quarter Title Count

Media and entertainment consulting firm BB (Business Bureau) has debuted its latest “Multi-screens+ Content Pulse” data chart, looking at the breakdown of first quarter movies and TV series distribution around the world.

With nearly 890,000 unique titles monitored for the quarter (and more than 7.2 million total titles monitored overall), it was Europe that had the most unique titles distributed during the quarter, with close to 407,000. Asia was second with more than 335,000 titles, with North America third at more than 275,000 titles. Of those 275,000 titles in North America, 263,346 were in the US, which was the top country worldwide, in terms of title count. Japan was second at 142,812, the UK third at 141,495.

Overall, with a 70-30 split of movies to TV series worldwide, drama was the top-represented genre at 23 percent, followed by documentary at 14 percent, and comedy at 14 percent.

Europe saw the most new titles launched during the quarter at 5,806, followed by North America (2,574) and Asia (2,379).
