Smart Content Summit EU, EDIR APM Return to IBC in September
Story Highlights
The Smart Content Summit — an annual gathering of the entertainment industry’s top minds in the areas of big data, AI, machine learning, automation and blockchain — expanded beyond its Los Angeles roots in 2020, with a virtual European version of the event.
On Sept. 10, 2022, the Smart Content Summit EU event returns, this time in Amsterdam as part of the in-person IBC Show, with viewers worldwide also able to watch live online via the MESAverse virtual platform.
First introduced nine years ago, Smart Content is an overarching concept of how data is integral to all parts of the media and entertainment supply chain. By making data integral to the content, and attached to each asset, we develop a data chain and feedback loop for that data to inform, and drive future content creation or distribution/monetization channels, the data becomes more valuable than the content itself.
Making the supply chain smarter, making the most of video services using data gathering and advanced analytics, tapping into the power of AI, data mining and machine learning to uncover customer insights, and using metadata to build the best recommendation engines possible will be among the topics discussed at the event.
The half-day summit will focus on data and analytics with some of the most brilliant forward-thinking partitioners including experts from gaming and broadcasting. One of the hottest topics that will be discussed includes fostering the adaptation of global frameworks and standards such as the Language Metadata Table and EIDR. A highlight session will bring localization to the forefront by tackling challenges and solutions for the distribution of content across all platforms.
“It’s crucial we address the challenges of how content is being produced and how the data connected to that content can increase the value of a production on the global scale. That includes taking a look at what solutions are available that can make the supply chain easier,” said Mary Yurkovic, director of Smart Content for MESA. “Additionally, it is critical we bring some best practices with governance around data connected to the content. This summit really focuses on the global view of M&E productions.”
In addition, the 2022 Smart Content Summit EU event will be followed by the Sept. 12 EIDR Annual Participant Meeting (EIDR APM), also held in conjunction with IBC, and also made available via the MESAverse virtual platform.
The March 10 U.S. EIDR APM event saw presentations on the quest for identifier interoperability, the benefits of EIDR-enabled broadcast automation, advances in natural triggers to automate EIDR registrations, and the debut of a new working group to address catalogue challenges when companies merge.
Also being held by MESA during IBC will be the return of the LAmsterdam party on Sept. 9 ad 10, and the CDSA Security and Devices Tour on the show floor at IBC on Sept. 10.
