Whip Media: HBO Preps for Monster ‘The Last of Us’ Debut

On the heels of correctly predicting a huge debut for Netflix’s “Wednesday” series, Whip Media is eyeing the Jan. 15 launch of “The Last of Us” as HBO’s biggest since “The House of the Dragon.”

According to Whip Media’s anticipation data, “The Last of Us” is poised to have the second strongest opening for an HBO series in more than two years and is the most anticipated new TV series of 2023. That’s based on users of Whip Media’s TV Time app, a TV and movie tracking app with more than 24 million global users.

“The Last of Us” surpasses non-HBO content in terms of fan anticipation, including other well-known 2023 releases, like “Ahsoka,” “Ironheart,” and “Secret Invasion” on Disney+, and is also tracking ahead of “Arcane” and “Halo” at the same point in time before their release dates.

Heading into its premiere, “The Last of Us” is tracking ahead of other well-known shows based on video game IP, according to Whip data.

Based on a 2013 PlayStation 3 action-adventure game, the series follows a pair of survivors on the road across a post-pandemic America.
