Reelgood: Romance Films See a Resurgence

That’s according to streaming aggregator Reelgood, which found that five romance movies that premiered this year accounted for 28 percent of the streaming share among the top 100 romance movies available to stream in the U.S., hinting that people are looking for new romance content when right when it’s available.

Your Place or Mine (Netflix), Somebody I Used to Know (Prime Video), You People (Netflix), Empire of Light (HBO Max) and Shotgun Wedding (Prime Video) combined to account for 12 percent of all engagements among the top 100 films streaming in February, and combine for 28 percent of views among the top 100 romance films, according to Reelgood data.

In other Reelgood data news, the company reported that during its premiere week on Disney+, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had 83.2 times higher streaming and engagement than the average movie on Disney+, a boost for film ahead of the Oscars.

During the week of Jan. 30 through Feb. 5, the first Black Panther movie had 7.6 times higher streaming and engagement than the average movie on Disney.
