Zixi Gears Up for IBC

MESA spoke with John Wastcoat, SVP of strategic alliances and marketing for Zixi, about his company’s plans for IBC, 15-18 September in Amsterdam.

Zixi will be located at Hall 5 #A.85; will be the title sponsor of the IBC-associated Devoncroft Summit; and will be on the 17 September panel “Best Practices in IP Delivery and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in Broadcast Delivery Workflows.”

MESA: What makes IBC unique among all the other conferences in our industry, and what does Zixi get out of the show?

Wastcoat: The first and the biggest thing is that you attract more visitors from EMEA and APAC than you do at other large conferences, so there is a regional portion that is important. Second, media organisations are starting to have an idea as to their next fiscal year budgets so there is some concrete planning that can be done versus events that are earlier in the year. Zixi gets to meet with our customers and partners, show off the second of two annual major releases, and solve problems for them. It is an exciting time as the year starts to wind down.

MESA: How has IBC changed over the years, what’s being done well, and what, if anything, would you like to see more of at the event?

Wastcoat: The IBC has put together the Accelerator Media Innovation program which is an exciting project bringing together multiple vendors to solve complex media and entertainment business and technology challenges, focusing on experimentation and new technology possibilities in tangible use case and workflow deployment.

MESA: What is Zixi most looking forward to in Amsterdam?

Wastcoat: Demonstrating the latest version of our software that the Zixi R&D has been working very hard on for a long time. In short, it increases compute efficiency by 95 percent and reduces egress costs by 50 percent, which allows our customers to reallocate their money into new content acquisition, new business models and opportunities to generate revenue.
