EditShare at IBC: Celebrating a Major Shift

Collaborative media workflow tech firm EditShare and cloud-native video solution provider Shift Media didn’t wait for IBC 2023 to share their big news: the two media and entertainment power players were merging, with the combined business operating as EditShare, bringing Shift’s well-known offerings — MediaSilo, Wiredrive, and Screeners.com —under the EditShare corporate brand.

Michael Kammes, senior director of innovation for EditShare, offered his perspective on this year’s IBC event.

MESA: What makes IBC unique among all the other conferences in our industry, and what did Shift, now EditShare, get out of the show?

Kammes: Media technology is used in an astounding number of ways. The diversity in how this tech is used gets exponentially larger when you consider the wants and needs — let alone requirements — in other countries. Conferences like IBC allow manufacturers to hear directly from existing and prospective clients in other countries on what they’re looking for.

It’s immensely important to keep this perspective when road mapping your products.

Meeting customers face to face is often difficult to do in a global market. Conferences and trade shows that bring the tech to people instead of vice versa also allow us to connect to our users in a way a video or newsletter can’t do.

MESA: How has IBC changed over the years, what’s being done well, and what, if anything, would you like to see more of at the event?

Kammes: Conferences have extended past simply informing the industry; often there are also educational tracks at conferences to teach the users. Often these are software “how to” classes. I’d like to see more educational tracks that cover broad topics, such as popular industry workflows. Perhaps even demystifying terms and concepts.

I’d also like to see professional life skills — how to network, how to advocate for yourself, best practices for handling work environment challenges, and the like.

MESA: What were you most looking forward to in Amsterdam?

Kammes: Before the show Shift announced that we’ve merged with EditShare. This is an exciting time. Not only did us Shifters meet our new colleagues and tech-partners-in crime, but we also shared the great news with our existing clients who will benefit from the joint tech goodness.

MESA: What product or service announcements did we see from EditShare during IBC?

Kammes: MediaSilo’s integration with Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio is now shipping — no need to leave the application to use the MediaSilo goodness! Our integration with MASV and Telestream’s Content Agent is also available today!

On the new side of the house, EditShare One gives a single, streamlined user experience across our high-performance production asset management and media storage solutions.

Plus, EditShare’s EFS Swift Link (bridges the gap between remote editing and centralised EditShare EFS storage systems in the cloud or on-premises) — now adapts to the network conditions of individual workstations allowing users to maintain a strong connection to the storage network.
