Reaching Deaf Viewers Discussed at ITS Localisation

At the February 29 ITS Localisation event in London, experts from the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT) will tackle an issue every content company needs to consider: how to better cater to deaf viewers.

In the discussion “The Deaf Way” BSLBT CEO Camilla Arnold and production executive Stephanie Burke will share how the mainstream industry can become allies in a world that is changing for deaf people. Lindsay Bywood, senior lecturer at the University of Westminster, will moderate.

Debuting in 2008, BSLBT’s mission has been to offer an alternative way for commercial broadcasters to meet their regulatory requirements to provide sign language on their qualifying channels. In this fireside chat attendees will find out more about what BSLBT is, how it works and what the organisation does. Learn about the content BSLBT is creating for deaf BSL users and its initiatives to encourage more deaf people behind the camera and more deaf subtitlers.

ITS Localisation is the media and entertainment industry’s premiere localisation event, bringing together the industry’s top language service providers, content creators, artificial intelligence and machine learning companies, and network executives, to talk about the challenges facing media and entertainment, and share the latest solutions to meet them.

Attendees will hear from expert panelists and presenters who will be discussing the industry landscape following a tumultuous period, how artificial intelligence, voice technologies and machine learning are playing an ever more important role, and how the adoption of smart, targeted cloud-based solutions can help achieve greater workflow efficiencies.

ITS Localisation is presented by MESA in association with the Content Localisation Council and Smart Content Council, and sponsored by Dubformer, Iyuno, AppTek, EIDR, Blu Digital Group, OOONA and Papercup.
