BB Media: Streaming Platform Slowdown Worldwide

Worldwide there were only two new streaming platform launches in March, marking a slowdown from recent months, according to a report from media and entertainment data tracking firm BB Media.

Barça One, FC Barcelona’s upcoming global streaming platform, has been announced, with the aim of bolstering the club’s worldwide presence and revenue with a mix of free and premium content.

It will either complement or merge with Barça TV+. And in Asia is Go Play Market, developed by Ooredoo in collaboration with MediaKind and Microsoft Azure.

It will offer live TV and on-demand content in Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Tunisia, Algeria, and the Maldives.

Additionally, Warner-Discovery’s Max announced it will expand to more European countries, including the Netherlands, France, and Belgium; MEGOGO has expanded to Romania; TF1+ is expanding to the French-speaking world, starting with Belgium and Luxembourg; and the UK’s Talk TV will shift from traditional linear channels to an exclusively online presence.

In Latin America, Star+ is set to merge with Disney+, mirroring Disney’s approach with the Disney+ and Hulu consolidation in the U.S. And in Mexico, FilminLatino, the Mexican streaming service, has re-branded as Nuestro Cine MX.

Worldwide, TVMonaco is rolling out a multi-screen OTT platform, ChessTV is launching an AVOD app, Paramount+ is launching an ad-supported plan internationally, starting in Canada and Australia, and Prime Video will introduce limited ads for users in Spain and Mexico this month.
