Global M&E Day Keynoter Looks to Industry’s Future

There’s a common theme among those companies that can be considered successful: they always have an eye toward — and a constant, internal conversation around — the future. What lessons must be operationalised today in order to avoid future irrelevance, or worse, extinction?

How that applies to media and entertainment — and how this industry can continue to evolve — will be the theme behind the keynote address at the 2 July Global Media & Entertainment Day event being presented live, virtually, from London.

Futurist, author and CEO of The Futures Agency, Gerd Leonhard, will stress that M&E recognise today that everything that can be digitised, automated or virtualised, eventually will be. His keynote — “Exponential Change – The Total Transformation of Business and Society” — will examine how the global pandemic has pushed M&E to more quickly automate its business, and more quickly move from a physical to a digitally-native world.

Leonhard will highlight how people and their organisations improve their understanding of new challenges and opportunities, and how they can move faster to develop the mindset (and implement the transformations) required during these uncertain times.

The keynote address sets the stage for an afternoon programme focused on the industry’s future as a global community, and how innovation and transformation will take M&E to new heights:

• Following the keynote and welcome remarks from Caringo CEO Tony Barbagallo and MESA president Guy Finley, Caroline Baines, member services director for MESA Europe, and Mary Yurkovic, director of Smart Content for MESA, will share insights into the meaning of “Smart Content” today for the industry, leading into an update around the Language Metadata Table (LMT), a unified source of reference for language codes for use throughout the media and entertainment industries. Yonah Levenson, metadata strategy and terminology governance leader for WarnerMedia/HBO, will walk attendees through the LMT’s core framework, what new objectives are being proposed, and news around partnerships and announcements for later this year.

• The panel “Content Localisation and the Emerging Smart Supply Chain” has Baines leading a discussion detailing how the pandemic has become a catalyst for innovative business tactics and techniques across the entire content supply chain, as both data and cloud continue to drive B2B efficiencies in remote working. James Hurrell, head of content operations and localisation for BBC Studios, Jan-Hendrik Hein, director of media operations at A+E Networks UK, and Giulia Parker, localisation executive for ITV, will examine solutions that emphasize strength in partnerships, driven by the need for us to come together with creativity and community across the global supply chain for localisation and distribution.

• Following the main stage presentations, Global M&E Day attendees will have four different Technology Showcase tracks to choose from, covering data, cloud, AI/ML/CX/supply chain, and security. Here is who will be presenting in each track:

Data: Tape Ark, Whip Media Group, ATMECS, and EIDR.

Cloud: Caringo, 5th Kind, Signiant, and Eluvio.

AI/ML/CX/Supply Chain: RSG Media, Zendesk, Tamr, and Sony New Media Solutions.

Security: Convergent Risks, Richey May Technology Solutions, Cyberhaven, and the Trusted Partner Network.

Now in its fourth straight year, the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance’s (MESA) M&E Day event begins at 12:30 British Summer Time. Following the main stage programme, the afternoon sessions and breakouts will feature data, cloud, IT and security experts, across the media and entertainment technology ecosystem, weighing in on and demonstrating the latest solutions on hand for — and the challenges facing — the industry in today’s global remote-work business environment.

The event will be presented by Caringo, with sponsorship by Convergent Risks, Cyberhaven, Richey May Technology Solutions, RSG Media, Signiant, Whip Media Group, Zendesk, Tape Ark, Sony New Media Solutions, 5th Kind, ATMECS, Eluvio, Tamr, the Audio Business Continuity Alliance (ABCA), the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR), and The Trusted Partner Network (TPN).
