MESA Content Localisation Council Marks First Back In-Person Meeting

MESA on 20th October celebrated its first back in-person meeting of the Content Localisation Council since the beginning of the pandemic, holding the event at the Naval and Military Club on St James Square in London, with Bente Ottersen, founder and CEO of Titles-On as the host.

The meeting, which was also made available online, brought together MESA’s localisation members, with content owners and broadcasters, including representatives from A+E Networks, BBC, Discovery, ITV, NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures, in attendance, all discussing the opportunities that lie ahead.

The challenges facing the industry following the huge growth in global streaming services were a major talking point, along with the continued growth in technologies such as machine translation. The explosion in demand for content has also led to a growing need for English subtitles and dubs due to the popularity of international shows such as “Squid Game.”

While the conversation was thought-provoking and enlightening, one of the key takeaways from the meeting was the joy of being back together and networking with good friends.

The MESA Content Localisation Council was founded with a mission to support the content localisation industry by providing a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and open discussion. The group’s aims are to promote the role localisation plays in ensuring content can reach global audiences and to keep all members of the group informed of industry developments, including the role of technology, legislative changes and the introduction of any standards or best practice procedures.

The group meets quarterly and holds an annual event in February, The Content Workflow Management Forum. For more information or to get involved please contact Caroline Baines, MESA’s director of client services, at [email protected].
