Derek is a Director at Altman Solon, a boutique strategy consulting firm focused exclusively on the Technology, Media, Telecom (TMT) sectors working directly with private equity and corporate development offices. Derek helps media clients develop strategic cost programs and integrate new and emerging technologies (virtual production, blockchain, cognitive technologies, process automation, AR/VR, IoT, analytics, etc.) to evolve and manage their business operations across the digital landscape. Derek is also a certified supply chain professional (CSCP) and frequently gives presentations and sits on industry panels to discuss the implications of new technology for media content supply chains.

Prior to joining Altman Solon, Derek spent nearly 20 years working in filmed entertainment. He began his entertainment career at Warner Bros. where he held several operations and transformation executive roles – based in Los Angeles and Tokyo – over the course of 10 years. His last role at Warner Bros. was as the SVP and General Manager of Global Digital Media Xchange (GDMX), a broadcast operations facility, where he led a portfolio of digital and broadcast distribution services. Derek then moved to Sony’s New Media Solutions, where he served as SVP for Strategic Planning & Development. There, he led strategic planning and development for a variety of technology and media services initiatives, including implementing new business and operating models for film studios, post-production companies, broadcasters and gaming clients. Derek also spent 6 years with Deloitte Consulting, where he was instrumental in assisting clients in defining and managing digital operations for physical and digital assets, data, processes and technologies for film studios, public media clients and broadcasters.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Derek earned his BS in Astronautical Engineering in the U.S. Air Force Academy before earning his MBA from the University of California at Irvine. He also completed an Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
