EIDR Looks to API Advantages at 5 Nov. Smart Content Summit EU

The cloud can make the delivery of new services easier than ever before, yet it can still take a great deal of time (and money) to develop them (all while following industry best practices) in the first place.

Add in mature APIs with an already installed customer base that needs around-the-clock support, and the challenges begin piling up. At the 5th November Smart Content Summit EU, Richard Kroon, director of technical operations for the Entertainment ID Registry (EIDR), will offer an easier path, where by deploying API “shims” — developed on an open-source platform backed by commercial support — you don’t have to make it harder on yourself.

“Learn about EIDR’s innovative approach to modernising their API, combining the flexibility to quickly add new functionality without compromising the stability of their existing API,” said Reshuffle CEO Avner Braverman, who will join Kroon at the presentation, which will show how companies can leverage APIs to for modular design and code-reuse, and perform complex tasks with a small amount of linking JavaScript.

An accompanying EIDR case study will show how an integrated Reshuffle platform can deliver new APIs in a way that encourages experimentation and innovation, delivering new features supporting customer applications without disrupting the current installed customer base.

“For too long we’ve avoided doing certain things because they were hard; because they represented challenges that might consume our engineering budgets, and so we were willing to postpone,” said Kroon, who will present the case study on the issue in his presentation “Delivering New Services without Building New Services.” “Now a whole class of applications has opened up before us that are easy to deliver so we can focus on meeting our customers’ needs and exceeding their expectations without the previous time and budget concerns.

“EIDR is a lean organisation, so we’re always looking for ways to do more with less. Adopting open-source, standards-based tools such as Reshuffle’s API construction suite allows us to work more efficiently without the long-term risks and costs associated with proprietary vendor lock-in, Kroon added. “Theory is nice, but there’s nothing like a read-world, practical example to prove that something is possible. The EIDR case study we’re presenting is not a manufactured marketing test case: it’s a real and useful thing that our customers have been asking for and we can now deliver more quickly and easily than ever before.”

Smart Content Summit EU is produced by MESA and MESA Europe, in association with CDSA, HITS and the Smart Content Council, which meets regularly to share best practices, evaluate emerging technologies and collaborate to accelerate the pace of transformation in our industry.

The summit is sponsored by Apptek, ATMECS, Cognizant, Deluxe, Digital Nirvana, Éclair, Eluvio, EIDR, Iyuno Media Group, NAGRA, Premiere Digital,  TransPerfect, Whip Media Group.
